Lena Katina is a bright singer, ex-soloist of the popular group t.A.T.u. As part of the duo, the girl traveled all over the world with concerts and recorded many interesting compositions, each of which became a hit.
Pretty girl was born on October 4, 1984 in Moscow. Her father Sergey Katin was a famous musician, who wrote songs for the Russian band Duna, as well as for singers Larissa Dolina, Marina Khlebnikova and other Russian stars. And Lena inherited the musical talent and craving for art. Her parents divorced and the girl was raised by her mother and stepfather. Lena has a younger sister.
At the age of eight the girl entered a music school. Two years later she became a soloist of children’s ensemble Avenue, where she sang for three years. 10-year-old Lena joined the well-known group Neposedy (Fidgets), where she met Yulia Volkova, Sergei Lazarev, Julia Malinovskaya, Vlad Topalov. With this team, Lena participated in many festivals and contests for children.
The project t.A.T.u. brought the girls huge success. They were popular not only in Russia, but also in the Western countries – U.S., Japan, Poland, Germany and many others.
Their first single I’ve Gone Crazy, released in December 2000, became a hit first in the CIS countries, and then in the world. The music video for the song received the prestigious international award – MTV Video Music Awards in the category Viewers’ Choice – Best Russian Video.
There were many rumors on their relations. Lena and Yulia became “loving girlfriends” on the stage.
In the late 2000s, the girls were super-stars, but despite this in 2009 the band announced their breakup. Elena and Yulia began their solo careers, however, they couldn’t achieve the same popularity.
In 2003, the duo participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in Riga. The girls performed the song Don’t Believe, Don’t Be Afraid, Don’t Ask and took the third place. The first two places went to Turkey and Belgium. The difference in points was small, and, as in some countries the voting system was violated, Russia tried to protest the results, but was refused.
In 2002 Lena entered the Moscow Institute of Economics and Humanities and graduated from it in 2007.
Later, in 2009, the international solo project Lena Katina was launched. From 2009 to 2012 Katina recorded several successful hits, including Never Forget, Melody and Shot. You know, Lena often performs with famous American and Mexican singers and collaborates with successful overseas producers.
On May 30, 2010 her first solo performance took place in the club Troubadour in Los Angeles.
A year later, on September 28, 2011, Katina along with Mexican band Belanova released a music video for the song Tic Toc.
On December 13, 2011 Lena gave her first charity web concert. All money was transferred to the Japanese Ashinaga foundation, providing support to children, victims of the disaster in Japan happened on March 11, 2011. By the way, the singer presented her new song Keep on Breathing, which was dedicated to the victims of the disaster.
On May 5, 2012 Katina and German musician Owen Clark presented a music video for the song Melody.
Moreover, on September 30, 2012 she sang Shot together with Russian rapper T-Killah.
Talented singer gave a concert in Los Angeles at the largest carnival in the world devoted to Halloween on October 31, 2012.
On February 7, 2014 Katina and Volkova performed at the opening ceremony of the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. In the same year the singer released her debut full-length album This Is Who I Am.
In August 2013 Lena married Slovenian musician Sasho Kuzmanovic. They live in Los Angeles. In 2015 Elena gave birth to their son Alexander.
