Linda, Russian singer
Linda is a Russian singer. Her style incorporates trip hop, electronic and ethnic music. The singer won her place among the best Russian artists, enriching the music with fresh and unusual sound.
Svetlana Geiman (her real name) was born on April 29, 1977 in Kentau, Kazakh SSR, USSR. She was an ordinary child, so no one even suspected that the girl would become a star.
When Sveta was 15 years old her family moved to Moscow. There she became interested in music and theater. Thus, the girl became a private visitor to the Hermitage theater, in which the collective of folk art performed. The future singer tried to master the stage skills, and Yuri Galperin became her teacher. Soon she left the theater, but did not lost interest in art.
In 1993, Linda entered the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. In the same year she performed on television, in the final of Generation in Jurmala (Latvia). There she was noticed by producer Yuri Aizenshpis.
At first, the singer collaborated with two composers – Vitaly Okorokov and Vladimir Matetsky. With their help, the young artist’s songs Playing with Fire and Non-Stop were created. Fyodor Bondarchuk became the director of the music video for her song Playing with Fire.
Linda’s cooperation with Yuri Aizenshpis did not last long and soon she began working with talented arranger and composer Maxim Fadeev. This cooperation turned out to be extraordinarily fruitful, because thanks to it the Russian stage was enriched by a unique artist and a successful producer.
At first, the author of music for the singer was composer Maxim Fadeev. Then she began to compose herself. Also she collaborated with Eugene Pozdnyakov, Mara and Lyubasha.
The first album of the beginning singer was released in 1994 and was called Songs of Tibetan Lamas. Olga Dzusova and Julia Savicheva participated in the creation of the album. 250 thousand copies of the album were quickly sold out.
Actually, she became a real celebrity after the release of her album Crow (1996). The children’s choir Kalinka and a choir of grandmothers from Scotland participated in the creation of the album. About 1.5 million copies of this album were sold.
The recording of new songs was accompanied by numerous scandals. So, after the release of the music video Marijuana one of the Moscow newspapers reported about Linda’s death. This information was repeated by a popular radio station. But in reality, the singer was in the hospital, where she treated bronchitis.
In 1997, the singer released a collection of dance remixes entitled Crow. Remix. Remake. It became a sensation in Russian dance music. In addition, the artist gave concerts in many cities of Russia and abroad. You know, in 1997 Linda performed together with Maxim Fadeyev in Kiev. About 400 thousand spectators came to their concert, which was a record for Russian artists. In general, from 1994 to 1998, the talented singer became the Singer of the Year nine times.
In 1998, Max Fadeev decided to move to Germany and only occasionally returned to Russia to work with Linda. Their new achievement was the album entitled Placenta (1999).
At the end of 1999, the last joint work of the singer and Maxim Fadeev appeared – the composition White on White. There were disagreements between the two creative people.
In 2001 her new album Sight was released.
Then, in 2002, the singer signed a contract with Universal Music. And also she met Lyubasha and Mara, who participated in the creation of several of her compositions. In 2004 the famous singer released her fifth studio album Attack. The first single was the song Chains and Rings, written by Mara.
Later she began collaborating with the producer and composer Stefanos Korkolis. He specialized in ethnic music and worked with world-class stars: Milen Farmer, Metallica, Peter Gabriel, etc. The result of their joint activity was the album AleAda (2006).
Her next album Scor-Pions, released in 2008, was recorded in Greece, France and the United States.
You know, in 2008, the star moved to Greece, where she continued to do her favorite thing. She gave concerts, composed music for performances, participated in writing music for the Special Olympics (2011, Athens).
Together with Korkolis, she created the project Bloody Faeries. Within its framework, the album Acoustics by Bloody Faeries was released.
In 2015 she presented a live album Life @, which included songs from her last concerts. And in the same year, the Moscow club hosted an album presentation Pencils and Matches. Legendary Hayden Bendall, who worked with Tina Turner, Paul McCartney, Queen, and others, was the sound producer.
Personal life
In 2012, the singer married musician Stefanos Korkolis. In 2015, they parted.
