Alsou – Russian pop singer
Alsou Abramova (or just Alsou) is a Russian pop singer, Honored Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan. She competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2000 and took the second place (the singer was only 16 years old). She hosted the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 held in Moscow.
The girl was born on June 27, 1983 the Tatar city Bugulma. Her father, Ralif Safin is a Russian oligarch, a former LUKoil executive and a current member of the Federal Council. He is also the owner of the FC Zhemchuzhina-Sochi football team and was named the 100th richest Russian by Forbes Magazine in 2004. Her mother is an architect. The singer has two brothers.
When the girl was a year old her family moved from Tatarstan to Siberia. They lived in Kogalyma (Tyumen region, Russia), the northern city with severe weather conditions. In winter the temperature reached 45 degrees below zero and in the summer the same temperature, but above zero.
The girl was engaged in music since early childhood. The parents bought a piano for 5 -year-old child.
In 1992, she came to Moscow and continued her studies. A year later the girl moved to the United States, six months later to Copenhagen, Denmark, where the singer spent another year and a half.
In 1995, she entered the British College MPW in London.
At the age of 15 Alsou was introduced to music manager Valeriy Belotserkovskiy and she impressed him. Her debut music video for the song “Winter Dream” was released in winter 1999. The song became a hit and the girl became famous overnight. In the same year young singer, the first ever in Russian show business, signed long-term contract with the record company Universal.
Her debut Russian album was released on September 16, 1999 and by 2000 more than 700.000 legal copies of the CD were sold in Russia.
In 2000 the singer represented Russia at the prestigious Eurovision Song Contest. In Stockholm, 16 -year-old Alsou performed with the song Solo and took second place. She became the youngest participant in the history of the competition. “Solo” went on to sell 100,000 copies and became the biggest selling single of all time in Russia.
In the same year Russian singer recorded a song “You’re My #1″ in a duet with Enrique Iglesias.
In 2001, beautiful singer received her first award – World Music Awards as the best-selling artist of the year in Russia.
Together with Jon Bon Jovi she sang the song Living On A Prayer in 2003.
Before the singer turned 18, she had already achieved great success and was honored several times.
The singer’s debut role on the screen was in the film Spirit Trap by David Smith, where she was not only an actress but sang the title song Teardrops.
She also starred in “Vivat, Anna Ioanovna!” directed by Svetlana Druzhinina. For the role she learned to ride a horse, throw darts, play the violin, as well as speak German.
On March 18, 2006 Alsou married Yan Abramov, a millionaire. She recorded a wedding song, “Miracles”, written by Alsou and her then-future husband Yan Abramov. It was released as a limited single for the guests of the wedding.
On September 7, 2006 Alsou gave birth to a baby daughter Safina. On April 29, 2008 she gave birth to her second daughter Mikella.
