Russian actresses in Hollywood
Yelena Solovey
The great star of Soviet cinema glittered brightly in the 70 – 80s in films by Nikita Mikhalkov (Slave of Love, Unfinished Piece) and Vladimir Bortko (Blonde Around the Corner). She left Leningrad in the early nineties and settled in New York City. Her American filmography is not too plentiful, but impressive: three episodes in The Sopranos and quite a prominent role in the drama We Own the Night by one of the best contemporary directors James Gray. Last Solovey’s project was a film Immigrants by the same director, with Joaquin Phoenix and Cotillard Mariyon as partners.
Ingeborga Dapkunaite
Her first work in an American movie was the role in the TV series The Good Guys. Throughout the nineties, the actress regularly appeared in different projects: from the local British TV series to the famous American television series Mission Impossible by Brian De Palma. She has also starred in Seven Years in Tibet and Shadow of the Vampire. In the Tibet she co-starred with Brad Pitt and in Shadows her partner became John Malkovich, with whom the actress has long-term friendship and joint projects.
Ekaterina played the main female role in the Oscar Awarded Film Thief by Pavel Chukhray. She made her debut in a foreign movie The Haunted Symphony. In 2005 she co-starred Daniel Craig in the movie Archangel by Jon Jones.
The future Hollywood star was the only child in the family. She was engaged in the theater studio, studied ballet and played the piano. Undoubtedly, all these skills helped Olga in her career. Before Hollywood, however, she was a successful model, moved to Paris, signed a contract with Madison agency. Then she debuted in the Canadian TV series Largo. And two years later Olga played the role of a vampire in one of the stories of the anthology Paris, I Love You. Kurilenko became a Bond girl in Quantum of Solace. Seven Psychopaths, By A Miracle, Oblivion – Olga chooses all kinds of projects and rarely makes mistakes. Ahead of the Berdyansk beauty are Vampire Academy, Chinese blockbuster Deep Empire, and – perhaps! – Superman vs. Batman.
Hodchenkova began her acting career abroad in a Polish project Little Moscow (before that, however, there were trips as a model). An elegant British film adaptation of Le Carre’s novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy presented blonde beauty to the world. Her partners there were Gary Oldman, Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch. Svetlana co-starred Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine, which has become one of the blockbusters of the summer.
Snigir is known for the role in the film Inhabited Island by Fyodor Bondarchuk. Her Hollywood breakthrough was in the film Die Hard. Yulia has starred in thriller Freezer with Dylan McDermott, who played in the TV series American Horror Story, and Twilight star Peter Facinelli.
