Mikhail Baryshnikov – Silent genius

He does not strive to dance better than others, but he wants to dance better than himself. And he was named the greatest ballet artist of the last century. By the way, he is one of the Russians who influenced the fate of the world ballet.
Mikhail Baryshnikov was born on January 27, 1948 in Riga. The family moved to Latvia, where Mikhail’s father, a Soviet officer, was sent to serve.
When he was 10 years old, the boy said that he wanted to study at the ballet school.
The boy’s life wasn’t easy. He grew up in a large communal apartment and when he was 12 years old his mother committed suicide. She supported Mikhail’s decision to go to the Riga Choreography School. Few years Baryshnikov spent with his father, but then he married again and Misha began to live an independent life. He moved to Leningrad and since that time he did not communicate with his father.
The boy studied at the Leningrad School of Choreography, the famous school of Russian ballet. And soon he became a soloist of the famous Mariinsky Theater.

Sofya Skya is a Russian ballet dancer, an American film actress and Mrs. World 2006 winner. Her real name is Sofya Arzhakovskaya.
The beautiful girl was born on August 12, 1987 in St. Petersburg into a family of a dentist. Her grandmother Emma Shchetinina was a famous harpist and teacher, Honored Artist of Bashkortostan.
The little girl liked dancing very much. At the age of ten, she joined the children’s studio Music Hall, where she began to earn her own money. At the age of 12 Sofya moved to Ufa, where she entered the Nureyev Russian State Ballet Academy. 16-year-old girl joined the Bashkir State Opera and Ballet Theatre as a Corps de Ballet member. You know, she participated in Swan Lake, La Bayadere, Snow White, Esmeralda, Raymonda.
At the age of eighteen Sofya became the first Russian beauty ever won Mrs. World pageant. In total, she has won five beauty pageants, including Russian Grace contest. On June 17, 2005 Sofya opened the third Viennese Ball in Moscow. After the victory Arzhakovskaya moved to the United States to continue her studies.

By the way, the girl practiced with famous choreographers in 3 studios Pineapple Studio (London), Millennium Studios (Los Angeles), and The Edge Studios (Los Angeles).

On November 20, 1925 one of the world’s most famous ballerinas Maya Plisetskaya was born. She is truly a legend, her dancing is magic, Nirvana and just breathtaking. She deserved those long standing ovations.
In order to be a ballerina Plisetskaya, being evacuated to Sverdlovsk during the Great Patriotic War, without a permit went to Moscow to study ballet.
In spring 1943 she began working at the Bolshoi Theater. In the first season Plisetskaya danced Masha in The Nutcracker, then Mirta in Giselle, she was the first Autumn fairy in Cinderella, Kitri in Don Quixote. In Sleeping Beauty Maya performed the role of Aurora. Soon Plisetskaya became a prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theater, succeeding the great Galina Ulanova.
Later Plisetskaya’s Dying Swan became famous throughout the world. By the way, before the dance, she visited the zoo and watched swans’ plastic, head movement and wingspan. Ballerina danced Swan Lake for more than 800 times.
Her regular partners were Alexander Bogatyrev and Alexander Godunov.

Oksana Grischuk is a Soviet and Russian figure skater who performed in ice dancing together with Evgeni Platov. They are three-time champions of Europe, four-time world champions, the first two-time Olympic champions in ice dancing.
Pretty girl was born on March 17, 1972 in Odessa, USSR. Oksana was engaged in figure skating at the age of 4. Valentina Kasyanova was her first coach. In 1981 Oksana moved to Moscow and at first she was a single skater. Alexander Chichkov became her partner in 1985.
Having won the Junior World Championship in 1988, the pair was forced to split up in the summer of 1989 because of Alexander’s injury. Oksana was invited to the group of Natalia Dubova, where Evgeni Platov became her partner. Already in December 1989, after only 3 months of joint training, the pair Grishuk – Platov became bronze medalists at the USSR championship, and in 1991 they won the championship of the country.
At the 1992 Olympic Games Oksana and Evgeni took the 4th place. In the same year, they won bronze medals at the European and World Championships. In the autumn of 1992 Oksana returned to her former coaches – Linichuk and Karponosov – together with the partner. A year later, the pair won the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer.

Anastasia Volochkova, a renowned Russian ballet dancer, was born on January 20, 1976 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg).
She was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Russia, People’s Artist of Karachay-Cherkessia, and People’s Artist of North Ossetia-Alania. Anastasia was the winner of Serge Lifar International Ballet Competition. By the way, she was awarded Benois de la Danse prize in 2002 and Golden Lion award in 2009 as the most talented dancer in Europe.
Pretty girl was born into the family of Yuri Fyodorovich, USSR table tennis champion and coach, and Tamara Vladimirovna, a tour guide. Volochkova dreamed of becoming a ballerina since childhood. She was five years old when she first saw The Nutcracker at the Mariinsky Theatre and fell in love with ballet.
The graduate of the St. Petersburg Academy of Russian Ballet, the student of the famous teacher Natalia Dudinskaya, began her career as prima ballerina of the Mariinsky Theatre in 1994. She danced the leading roles in Giselle, Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker and many others.
