Nelly Uvarova, theater and film actress
Nelly Uvarova is a talented Russian theater and film actress, who became well known and popular after the TV series “Be not born beautiful”. Today Nelly is a real star of Russian cinema.
The future actress was born on March 14, 1980 in a small Lithuanian town of Mazeikiai in a family of Russian and Armenian descent. Her father worked as an engineer and her mother was a gymnastics teacher. Nelly has an older sister Lena, who is a successful fashion designer.
Nelly participated in school plays and was one of the main stars of all performances. Her mother several times even wrote scripts for school plays, in which Nelly took part.
Uvarova graduated from the All-Russian State University of Cinematography, one of the most prestigious universities throughout the CIS.
In 1999, Nelly began to appear in the films, including the famous “Boomer”.
Her debut film was “Let’s fly” directed by Anna Melikyan. For the role in this film Uvarova was awarded the main prize at the International Institute Film Festival.
For the role in the short film “On Demand” the actress was awarded “St. Anna” prize.
In 2001, Uvarova joined Russian Academic Youth Theatre, where she played many prominent roles. She played Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz” and Natalie Herzen in the play “The Coast of Utopia”.
However, a one man show “Rules of behavior in modern society”, became one of her most striking works. For this role, she was awarded the prize of the international festival “Rainbow” and was also nominated for the “Golden Mask” award.
The role of a charming ugly girl, Katya Pushkareva, in the TV series “Be not born beautiful” (2005) became a real breakthrough in Nelly’s career and brought her national love and fame. During the broadcast of the series she had turned into a real star of Russian television.
Uvarova played in such TV series as “In the first circle”, “Atlantis”, “Heavy Sand” and feature films “I stay”, “M + F”, “Ex-wife” and some others.
In 2011, the actress organized the project “Is it naive? It is” – an online gift shop, which was created to promote creative works of children with disabilities.
Before her role in “Be not born beautiful” Nelly married film director Sergei Pikalov. They were together for three years. They say the couple parted because of Nelly’s popularity.
In 2011, Uvarova gave birth to a daughter Iya, whose father is Russian actor Alexander Grishin.
