Maria Savinova, Russian athlete
Maria Savinova was born on August 13, 1985 in Chelyabinsk.
Maria is a Russian athlete, who specializes in the 800 meters, Honored Master of Sports of Russia, the best athlete in Europe in 2011. She is best known for winning the gold medals at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, South Korea. On August 13, 2012 Mariya was awarded the Order of Friendship for outstanding contribution to the development of physical culture and sports, high achievements in sports at the Games of the XXX Olympiad 2012 in London (UK).
In 2009, Savinova became the European indoor champion in the 800 m and the World indoor champion (also in the 800 m) one year later.
Savinova graduated from the South Ural State University and now studies at the Chelyabinsk State University of Agriculture and Engineering.
On September 10, 2010, Maria married a middle-distance runner Alexey Farnosov. In 2014, she took her husband’s name. In December 2014 it was announced that Maria is expecting a baby.
